Scanning a Large Document Folded in Half and Saving the Scanned Image

Scan a large document folded in half and save the scanned image as a PDF file. When there are characters, figures, or tables on the fold line of the document folded in half, the left and right pages of the document are automatically merged into a single-page image.

This section explains how to scan a large document folded in half that contains characters, figures, or tables on the fold line with the single feed/manual scan mode, and save the scanned image as a single-page PDF file. Scanned images are automatically merged only when there is text, diagram, or a table on the fold line of the folded document.

  • If scanned images are not merged automatically, merge the front side image and the back side image into a double-page spread image by referring to Creating a Double-Page Spread Image by Merging Two Pages.

  • When scanned images of a document are not merged automatically, if you use an optional Carrier Sheet to scan the document, you can merge the scanned images automatically.

  1. Prepare documents to be scanned with the ScanSnap.

  2. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap to turn the power on. Open the feed guide of the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

  3. Prepare a profile in ScanSnap Home.
    1. Click the [Scan] button in the upper left of the Main Window of ScanSnap Home to display the Scan Window.
      Windows

      If the main window is not already displayed, refer to To Display the Main Window.

      Mac OS

      If the main window is not already displayed, click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

       

    2. Click Profile Adding Icon to display the [Add new profile] Window.
    3. Select [Document folded in half] from the template list on the left side of the window.

      If necessary, change the scan settings.

    4. Click the [Add] button to add this profile to the profile list in the scan window.
  4. In the home screen on the touch panel, select the profile that you added in step 3 from the profile list.
  5. Scan a document with the ScanSnap.
    1. Pull out the extension and the stacker on the ADF paper chute (cover).

    2. Fold the document in half with the sides to be scanned facing out.

    3. Load the document in the ADF paper chute (cover).

    4. Align the side guides with both ends of the document.

      Hold each side guide in the middle to adjust them. Otherwise, the document may be fed skewed during scanning.

    5. Press the [Scan] button.
      HINT
      • To continue scanning, load the next document to be scanned in the ADF paper chute (cover). When the document is loaded, scanning starts automatically.

    6. Press the [Finish] button.

When the folder that you specified for the save destination is selected in the folder list view in the main window of ScanSnap Home, the content data records created from the documents that you scanned are displayed in the content data record list view.
