Activating a License for ScanSnap Home (ScanSnap Home 2.9 or Earlier)

HINT
  • ScanSnap Home 2.10 or later does not require license activation of ScanSnap Home. In addition, the number of computers and mobile devices that can be used is unlimited.

    To update ScanSnap Home to the latest, refer to To Update the Software.

To use ScanSnap Home, you need to activate a license. Connecting the ScanSnap to a computer automatically activates a license so that ScanSnap Home is available to be used.

However, there is a maximum limit of the ScanSnap licenses. So, deactivate the licenses for computers or user accounts that no longer use the ScanSnap.

If you register a ScanSnap account and use the account to activate a license for ScanSnap Home, you can do the following:

  • Use the ScanSnap with up to five devices such as computers or mobile devices under one license.

  • Scan documents with the ScanSnap and save the scanned images directly from the ScanSnap to a cloud service with ScanSnap Cloud.

When the license for ScanSnap Home is activated with a ScanSnap account, you can use the ScanSnap with up to five computers under one license.

ATTENTION
  • ScanSnap accounts are available in the following regions. For details about regions where ScanSnap accounts are available, refer to here.

    Regions Where ScanSnap Accounts Are Available
  1. Display the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

    For details, refer to To Display the Main Window.

  2. Select [Settings] in the menu → [Preferences] to display the preferences window.
  3. Select the [Account] tab to activate the license for ScanSnap Home.

    For [License number], a serial number for the ScanSnap, which is connected to the computer, is displayed.

    Activate the license by performing one of the following:

    • When you do not use a ScanSnap account

      Select [A ScanSnap account is not used] and then click the [Sign in] button.

      ATTENTION
      • If you repeatedly sign in and sign out or deactivate a license without a ScanSnap account multiple times for a certain period of time, you will not be able to sign in.

    • When you use a ScanSnap account

      Sign in by entering a ScanSnap account e-mail address and password in the fields under [Sign in with a ScanSnap account. (recommended)].

      You can register a ScanSnap account in the ScanSnap account registration page that is displayed when you click [If an account is not registered, Click Here].

      HINT
      • If you activate a license with a ScanSnap account, you can enable a two-factor authentication that enhances the security of the ScanSnap account.

        For details, refer to Enabling Two-Factor Authentication for a ScanSnap Account (ScanSnap Home 2.9 or Earlier).

    • When you register an additional license

      Select [Register an additional license] and then click the [Sign in] button.

  4. Click the [OK] button to close the preferences window.

The license activation in ScanSnap Home is performed for the ScanSnap connected to the computer.

HINT
  • To use ScanSnap Home or establish a link with a cloud service via ScanSnap Cloud with a ScanSnap account (other than the ScanSnap account with which the license was activated), sign in to ScanSnap Home with another ScanSnap account. If you switch the ScanSnap account to a new one, you can continue to use ScanSnap Home with the new ScanSnap account.

    To use ScanSnap Home with a ScanSnap account other than the ScanSnap account with which the license is activated, sign in to ScanSnap Home with another ScanSnap account. If you switch the ScanSnap account to a new one, you can continue to use ScanSnap Home with the new ScanSnap account.

  • To check the current situation with regard to license activation of a ScanSnap account or to change an e-mail address or password for a ScanSnap account, refer to the ScanSnap account management page.

  1. Display the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

    Click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

  2. Select [ScanSnap Home] on the menu bar → [Preferences] to display the preferences window.
  3. Select the [Account] tab to activate the license for ScanSnap Home.

    For [License number], a serial number for the ScanSnap, which is connected to the computer, is displayed.

    Activate the license by performing one of the following:

    • When you do not use a ScanSnap account

      Select [A ScanSnap account is not used] and then click the [Sign in] button.

  4. Click Close at the top of the window to close the preferences window.

The license activation in ScanSnap Home is performed for the ScanSnap connected to the computer.
