Scanning Documents (iX500)

ScanSnap Connect Application can be used to scan documents.

For details about documents that can be scanned, refer to Documents That Can Be Loaded Directly into iX500.

The procedure to scan documents is as follows:

  1. If you are loading multiple sheets, check the number of sheets.

The maximum number of sheets in the ScanSnap is as follows:

For A4 or smaller sizes: Up to 50 sheets can be loaded (with paper weight of 80 g/m2 [20 lb] and thickness of the document stack under 5 mm [0.2 in.]).

    ATTENTION

If you try to scan more than the maximum amount that can be loaded, the following problems may occur:

    • Files cannot be properly created due to excessive file size.

    • Paper jams occur during scanning.

  2. Fan the documents.
    1. Hold both ends of the documents and fan them a few times.

      Fanning the Documents
    2. Rotate the documents 90 degrees and fan them in the same manner.

  3. Straighten the edges of the documents and slightly displace the top edges at an angle.

    ATTENTION

Paper jams or damage to documents may occur if you scan the documents without aligning the edges first.

  4. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of iX500.
Open the ADF Paper Chute (Cover)

The [Scan] button flashes in blue. The button returns to being lit normally when document scanning is enabled.

  5. Pull the stacker towards you.
    Pull the Stacker towards You
  6. Depending on documents to scan, pull out the extension on the ADF paper chute (cover) and open the stacker.
Pull Out the Extension and Open the Stacker
  7. Load the documents in the ADF paper chute (cover).

Load the documents face-down and top-first with the back of the last document facing you. Adjust the number of documents so that they do not go beyond the reference marks and are kept within the side guides when they are loaded.

    ATTENTION
    • Do not leave more than 50 sheets (80 g/m2 or 20 lb) of ejected documents on the stacker.

    • Automatic image rotation is not available when scanning with ScanSnap Connect Application.

  8. Adjust the side guides to the width of the documents.

Hold each side guide in the middle to adjust them. Otherwise, the documents may be fed skewed.

  9. Perform a scan.
    • To scan from ScanSnap Connect Application

Tap [Scan] Button on the [File List] screen or do the same thing on the folder screen with the ScanSnap Sync function set to on.

    • To scan from iX500

Press the [Scan] button on iX500.

A message appears indicating that the file is being received.

The received file will appear on the [File List] screen or the [Files] screen.

    HINT
    • When [Continuous Scan] is selected for [Feed] under [Scanning] in [Profile], after scanning is complete, a message appears asking you whether to continue scanning or not.

Load documents in iX500. Then, tap the [Continue] button or press the [Scan] button on iX500 to continue scanning.

To end the scan, tap the [Exit] button.

    • When you configure [Specify destination] for [Destination] in the [Profile] screen, the file is moved to the specified destination after scanning.

Because the file that is moved is not displayed in the [File List] screen or in the folder screen with the ScanSnap Sync function set to on, use another application to confirm that the image data meets your requirements.

    • When the ScanSnap Sync function is set to on, the received file is uploaded to a synced cloud service automatically if you select the [Auto Upload] checkbox in [ScanSnap Sync Setting] and an Internet connection is established.

  10. Tap the received file on the [File List] screen or the [Files] screen.

    The [Preview] screen appears.

  11. Confirm that the image data meets your requirements.

If it does not meet the requirements, connect the computer with iX500, scan the document, and then get or download the file in the following procedure.

    • Use Scan to Mobile to receive the file

    • Use the ScanSnap Sync function to download the file that is saved in ScanSnap Organizer

    HINT

You can send and view the received file in another application. When the ScanSnap Sync function is set to on, the received file can be uploaded to a cloud service. After the received file is uploaded to a cloud service, the file can be used in ScanSnap Organizer on a computer that is synced with the cloud service or used on other mobile devices.

ATTENTION
  • The scanned data will be discarded if you exit ScanSnap Connect Application during scanning.

  • When a notification occurs such as an e-mail alert, alarm or power shortage, a mobile device connected to iX500 will be disconnected and scanning will be canceled.

In this case, you can keep the scanned data created before the disconnection by bringing ScanSnap Connect Application active again, however, you cannot continue scanning the rest of the document.

  • Up to 1,000 pages can be created for a single PDF file.

  • Long page scanning is not available even if you hold down the [Scan] button on iX500 for 3 seconds or until it starts flashing in blue.

If you use ScanSnap Manager on your computer, scan a long page document with ScanSnap Manager. You can receive the file or download the file to your mobile device in the following procedure.

    • Use Scan to Mobile to receive the file

    • Use the ScanSnap Sync function to download the file that is saved in ScanSnap Organizer

  • Scanning using the Carrier Sheet is not available.

    • Use Scan to Mobile to receive the file

    • Use the ScanSnap Sync function to download the file that is saved in ScanSnap Organizer
