Using the ScanSnap at Your Business Trip Destination by Connecting It Directly from the Computer

Even if you are out of the workplace such as out on a business trip where you cannot connect your computer to a wireless access point, you can use the ScanSnap by connecting it directly to a computer.

This section describes an example in which you disconnect the ScanSnap from the wireless access point and connect the ScanSnap directly to the computer via a direct connection.

It is assumed in the following explanation that ScanSnap Home is installed on a computer to be connected to the ScanSnap. If not, install ScanSnap Home from here.

  1. Switch the connection of the ScanSnap to a direct connection.
    1. Open the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap to turn the power on.

    2. Press Settings in the home screen on the touch panel of the ScanSnap to display the [Settings] screen.
    3. Press Wi-Fi settings to display the [Wi-Fi settings] screen.
    4. Press [Wi-Fi connect mode] to display the [Wi-Fi connect mode] screen.
    5. Select [Direct connection].
    6. Press Back twice to display the [Settings] screen.
    7. Press Back twice to display the [Settings] screen.
    8. Press Connecting Devices to display the [Connecting Devices] screen.
    9. Open the window for setting the Wi-Fi function on the computer.
      HINT
      • For details, refer to the manual of the computer.

      Enter the network name (SSID) and security key that are displayed in the [Connecting Devices] screen on the touch panel of the ScanSnap in the window for setting the Wi-Fi function.

  2. Check the scanner name of the ScanSnap to be connected.
    1. Press Settings in the home screen on the touch panel of the ScanSnap to display the [Settings] screen.
    2. Press Connecting Devices to display the [Connecting Devices] screen.
    3. Check the scanner name that is displayed in [Scanner name].
  3. Connect a computer to the ScanSnap.
    1. Click the [Scan] button at the top of the Main Window of ScanSnap Home to display the Scan Window.

      If the main window is not already displayed, refer to To Display the Main Window.

      If the main window is not already displayed, click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

       

    2. Select [Add a ScanSnap] from the [Select a scanner] list.
    3. In the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window, select the ScanSnap model to be connected and then click the [Start setup] button.
    4. In the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Connection with the ScanSnap), select the scanner name of the ScanSnap to be connected, and click the [Next] button.
      HINT
      • When an IP address is set for the ScanSnap, you can connect the ScanSnap to a computer by specifying the IP address.

        Specify the IP address for the ScanSnap to be connected in the window that appears when you click [Using an IP address].

    5. When the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Connection is complete) appears, click the [Next] button.
    6. When the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Let's use it!) appears, check the contents and click the [Close] button.

The computer and the ScanSnap are connected directly.

HINT
  • You can also connect the ScanSnap by clicking the [Add] button under [Scanner information] in the [Scanner] tab of the preferences window. To remove the ScanSnap that you do not need, select the ScanSnap from the list of ScanSnap units and click the [Remove] button. It is also removed from the [Select a scanner] list in the scan window.

    To display the preferences window, select [Settings] → [Preferences] from the menu.

  • You can also connect the ScanSnap by clicking the [Add] button under [Scanner information] in the [Scanner] tab of the preferences window. To delete the ScanSnap that you do not need, select the ScanSnap from the list of ScanSnap units and click the [Delete] button. It is also deleted from the [Select a scanner] list in the scan window.

    To display the preferences window, select [ScanSnap Home] → [Preferences] in the menu bar.
