Scanning Long Pages (iX1300)

Documents up to 863 mm (34 in.) in length can be scanned.

ATTENTION

Scanning long page documents is only available for U-turn Scan, in which a document is loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) and scanned.

HINT

For details about how to load documents that are 360 mm (14.17 in.) or less in length, refer to Scanning Documents (iX1300).

  1. Hold the right side of the ADF paper chute (cover) of the ScanSnap then open it to turn the power on.

    Open the ADF paper chute (cover) fully so that the [Scan] button lights up in blue.

    When the ADF paper chute (cover) is opened, the extension will rise automatically.

    • The ScanSnap Manager icon in the Dock changes from Not Communicating to Communicating.
  2. Specify the feeding method if needed.
    1. Click the ScanSnap Manager icon Communicating in the Dock while holding down the [control] key on the keyboard, and then select [Settings] from the ScanSnap Manager Menu.
      • The ScanSnap setup window appears.
    2. Click the [Feed option] button in the [Scanning] tab.

    3. Select the feeding method for [Feed] in [ADF].

      For [Feed], select the feeding method for U-turn Scan (which is the scanning method used when loading documents in the ADF paper chute (cover)).

      [Normal scan] is selected by default.

        When all of documents loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) are scanned, scanning is complete automatically and the Quick Menu appears.

      • Continuous scan

        Scans documents continuously in multiple batches.

        To scan documents more than the amount that can be loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) on the ScanSnap, select [Continuous scan].

        If you scan documents after the first scan, you can use the ADF paper chute (cover) or the manual feeder for scanning.

    4. Click the [OK] button.
    5. Click the [Apply] button in the ScanSnap setup window.
    6. Click the [Close Button] button in the upper left of the window to close the ScanSnap setup window.
  3. Load only one document in the ADF paper chute (cover).

    Hold the document with your hand so that it does not fall out of the ADF paper chute (cover).

  4. Align the side guides with both ends of the document.

    Hold each side guide in the middle to adjust them. When there is a space between the side guides and the document, the document may be fed skewed.

    ATTENTION
    • Make sure that the document support tab is open.

      Otherwise, a paper jam may occur.

      If the document support tab is closed, pull it up with your fingers.

    • If the document support tab comes off, refer to "Customer Support" in About Customer Support and Maintenance to inquire about the problem.
  5. Press the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap (for three seconds or longer) until the button flashes in blue to start a scan.
    ATTENTION
    • When scanning a long page document, give support to the document in a way that prevents it from being fed skewed into the ScanSnap. If the document is fed skewed into the ScanSnap, it may be damaged.

    • In the following cases, the message "Documents have been loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) and inserted into the manual feeder at the same time." is displayed.
      • Pressing the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap while documents are loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) and a document is inserted into the manual feeder at the same time

        Remove the document from the manual feeder and then click the [Continue Scanning] button or press the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap.

        Refer to How to Remove a Jammed Document from iX1300 to remove the jammed document.

        Load documents in the ADF paper chute (cover) or insert a document into the manual feeder again and then click the [Continue Scanning] button or press the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap.

    • A document cannot be inserted into the manual feeder during U-turn Scan.
    • When there are no documents in either the ADF paper chute (cover) or manual feeder, the message "Documents have not been loaded in the ADF paper chute (cover) or inserted into the Manual Feeder." is displayed. Load documents in the ADF paper chute (cover) and then click the [Continue Scanning] button or press the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap.
    • Do not perform the following operations during scanning. Doing so will stop scanning.
      • Connect or disconnect the ScanSnap and other USB devices.
      • Close the ADF paper chute (cover).
      • Switch users.
      • Allow the computer to enter sleep mode.
    HINT

    When you scan the first page as a long page and continue scanning, the subsequent documents are also scanned as long pages.

    • The [Scan] button on the ScanSnap flashes in blue while the documents are being scanned.

      In addition, the [ScanSnap Manager - Image scanning and file saving] window appears on the computer.

      After scanning is complete, if the message "Load the next document." is displayed on the [ScanSnap Manager - Image scanning and file saving] window, you can continue scanning by loading documents and clicking the [Continue Scanning] button or pressing the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap.

  6. Click the [Finish Scanning] button in the [ScanSnap Manager - Image scanning and file saving] window or press the [Scan] button on the ScanSnap without loading any more documents in the ScanSnap.
    • Scanning is complete and the Quick Menu appears.
  7. In the Quick Menu, click the icon of the application to link with ScanSnap Manager.

    When you select [Save Documents], you can manage scanned images by folder with ScanSnap Home.

    • The selected application starts up. For details, refer to the Advanced Operation Guide.
    ATTENTION
    • You cannot start scanning when the Quick Menu is displayed. Either select an icon from the Quick Menu and finish the process, or close the Quick Menu before you perform the next scan.
    • Do not move, delete, or rename scanned images using other applications while the Quick Menu is displayed.
    HINT
    • Clicking Detail displays the description of an application. Placing the mouse cursor over the icon of another application displays the description of the application.
    • Performing a scan while an application that can be automatically linked with is active automatically starts the linkage between ScanSnap Manager and the application.
