Taking a Photo of a Document, Receipt, or a Photo with the the Camera Function

By simply taking a photo of a document, receipt, or a photo with the ScanSnap Cloud application's camera function, a photo image that is automatically cropped to the same size as each document is created.

The automatic photo-taking mode and manual photo-taking mode are available. When you select the automatic photo-taking mode, the camera function automatically takes a photo when it recognizes a document. When you select the manual photo-taking mode, you can manually take a photo anytime.

HINT
  • When you want to convert a photo image to a searchable PDF file, set the PDF option [Convert to Searchable PDF] in [File format] Screen to "ON" before you take a photo.

  1. Start the camera function by tapping Camera Button at the bottom of the main screen.

    The screen for the photo-taking mode appears.

    HINT
    • If a message for checking the permission to access the camera of the device appears, tap [OK] to approve it.

    • If the "Unable to access the camera" message appears, on the mobile device, go to [Settings] [Privacy] [Camera], and enable [ScanSnap Cloud]. For details, refer to Tapping the Camera Button Does Not Enter Photo-taking Mode. in "ScanSnap Cloud Troubleshooting".

  2. Select a photo-taking mode.

    The automatic photo-taking mode is set by default.

    To take a photo in manual photo-taking mode, tap Automatic Photo-Taking Mode in the upper right of the screen to switch to Manual Photo-Taking Mode.

  3. Swipe right or left on the photo-taking mode screen to select the document type of a document that you want to take a photo of.

    The selected document type is displayed in color.

    HINT

    When [Always save to same service] is specified on the [Select cloud storage services] screen, the document types are not displayed.

  4. Hold the camera so that the document is at the center of the screen.

    The document is automatically recognized and the crop area is shown.

    HINT
    • Place the document with no creases and position the lens of the camera directly above the document.

    • Move the document or the camera so that the document is within the camera frame when taking a photo.

    • Take a photo in a well-lit room to avoid shade that may appear on the document.

    • Tap OFF to enable the flash when you want to use it.

      Every time you tap the icon, the setting for the flash switches in the order below:

      OFF (OFF) Auto (Auto) ON when taking a photo (ON when taking a photo) Keep ON (Keep ON at all time) Back to OFF

  5. In automatic photo-taking mode, hold the camera still with the crop area displayed on the screen. In manual photo-taking mode, tap Photo-Taking Button.

    A photo of the document is taken.

    A thumbnail of the photo image appears in the lower left of the screen.

    [Send] appears in the lower right of the screen as well.

    You can continue to take photos of documents.

    ATTENTION
    • When the color of the document and the background color of where you place the document are similar, the automatic photo-taking mode may not work.

    • From the second document onwards, the document type will be the same as the first document.

    • When you want to change the document type, send the photo images of documents that were already taken with the camera function to a cloud storage service.

    HINT
    • If the automatic photo-taking mode cannot recognize the document and does not take a photo, you can take a photo by tapping Photo-Taking Button.

    • The maximum number of photos that can be taken consecutively is 100.

  6. Tap the thumbnail in the lower left of the screen to check that the photo of a document has been taken correctly and edit it if needed.

    The following operations are available from thumbnails:

    HINT

    Check the photo image and if the photo of the document has not been taken correctly, then you can retake a photo. For details, refer to Retake the Photo That Was Taken.

  7. When you finish editing, tap [Send] at the bottom of the [List of photos] screen.

    The photo image is uploaded to the cloud storage service via ScanSnap Cloud service. For details, refer to Uploading Photo Images to a Cloud Storage Service.

    HINT

    You can also tap [Send] in the lower right of the photo-taking mode screen to upload the image.

ATTENTION

If you exit the the camera function while you are taking a photo, the photo images are automatically deleted the next time the camera starts.
