Book Image Correction Does Not Work Correctly/Fingers Are Not Detected Correctly
When you perform a scan with the ScanSnap, if the book image correction does not work correctly or fingers are not detected correctly, check the following:
Are you holding the document down in the appropriate areas?
If you hold the document down at the corners while scanning, the outer edges of the document may not be detected correctly, or your fingers may be detected.
To scan a book, hold it down at both the left and right edges.
To scan a flat document, hold it down at both the left and right edges or both the top and bottom edges.
Is the background color of the page other than white?
When you scan a book with background color that is not white, the book image correction may not work correctly. When the background color of the page is similar to the color of your fingers, your fingers may not be detected correctly.

Is there sufficient margin space on the left, right, top and bottom of the page?
In order for the book image correction to work correctly, sufficient margin space on the left, right, top and bottom of the pages to be scanned is required. 1 cm or more is recommended for the margin space.

Is the center of the double-page spread book aligned with the centering mark?
If you scan a book face down or spread opened in a vertical orientation, the book image correction may not work correctly.
Align the center of the double-page spread book with the centering mark.
Does the book have a cover or a belly-band wrap?
If the book has a cover or a belly-band wrap, the book image correction may not work correctly because the outline of the book may be enlarged. In such a case, because the captured finger lengths exceed the acceptable length, the captured fingers may not be detected correctly.
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
It is recommended that you remove the cover or belly-band wrap from the book before you use Book Image Viewer or Point Retouch.

Is there anything other than the documents in the scan area?
If there is anything other than the documents (such as mice and cables) in the scan area, book image correction may not function correctly.
Remove anything other than the documents to be scanned from the scan area.
Is the height of the document more than 3 cm?
The height of the document should be 3 cm or less.
The line on the side of the ScanSnap base indicates the maximum height.
Did you scan a book in a double-page spread that is smaller than A5 in size?
If you scan a book which is smaller than A5 size (148 × 210 mm) in a double-page spread, the book image correction may not work correctly.
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
Have you selected [Color] for the color mode in the scan settings?
If you select [B & W] or [Gray] for the color mode in the scan settings and scan a book, the fingers captured in the scanned image may not be detected correctly.
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
When you use Point Retouch, it is recommended that you select [Color] for the color mode in the scan settings.

Did you place down multiple documents?
Place down a single document.
Are your fingers in the scanned image bent?
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
Drag the dots on the outline to include the bent parts of the fingers.

Are your fingers overlapping?
Perform one of the following:
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
Part your fingers, and then try scanning again. It is recommended that you part your fingers leaving a width of about 2 cm or more between your fingers.

Do you have manicured or artificial nails?
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.

Do the captured finger lengths exceed the acceptable length?
Perform one of the following:
Correct the scanned image with Book Image Viewer.
Shorten the lengths of the captured fingers as much as possible. The lengths of the captured fingers should be no more than 1 cm.
