Installing ScanSnap Home

ScanSnap Home is a software application that is used not only to scan a document, view, edit, manage and search for a content data record, or link the ScanSnap with an application, but also to assist in creating and managing meta information with its learning function.

When you install ScanSnap Home on a computer, all of the following software applications are uninstalled.

  • ScanSnap Manager

  • ScanSnap Organizer

  • CardMinder

  • ScanSnap Receipt

  • ScanSnap Connect Application

  • ScanSnap Cloud

On your computer or mobile device, download the software from here.

Select the appropriate software to download depending on your operating system.

Install the appropriate software for your device.

For a computer
ATTENTION
  • Do not connect the ScanSnap to the computer before installing ScanSnap Home.

  1. When the [ScanSnap Home Setup] window (Welcome to ScanSnap Home Setup) appears, click the [Next] button to start installing the software.

    Follow the instructions to install the software.

  2. The window for selecting a model to be connected appears after the installation is complete, select a ScanSnap model that you want to connect and then click the [Start setup] button.

  3. Follow the instructions on the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (How to connect ScanSnap) to connect the ScanSnap to a computer and click the [Next] button.

    • Do not use a cable other than the supplied one to connect to the ScanSnap. Using other cables may cause a scanner failure.

  4. Follow the instructions on the window to turn on the ScanSnap and then click the [Next] button.

  5. When the "ScanSnap has been connected successful." window appears, click the [Finish] button.

  6. In the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Connection with the ScanSnap), select the connection method and the ScanSnap to be connected.

    Wi-Fi connection
    ATTENTION
    • To connect the ScanSnap and a computer via Wi-Fi, you need to connect the computer to the same wireless access point as the one that you selected when configuring the Wi-Fi settings on the touch panel of the ScanSnap.

    Select the scanner name of the ScanSnap to be connected, and click the [Next] button.

    The default scanner name of the ScanSnap is "ModelName-<Serial No.>".

    USB cable connection

    Connect the desired ScanSnap to the computer with a USB cable, select [Connect by USB cable], and then click the [Next] button.

    When the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Connect by USB cable) appears, click the [Next] button.

  7. When the [ScanSnap wireless network setup] window appears, select whether to configure the Wi-Fi settings for the ScanSnap.

    ATTENTION
    • To connect the ScanSnap and a computer via Wi-Fi, the computer must be already connected to the wireless access point that you want to connect the ScanSnap to.

    Click the [Setup now] button.

    When the wireless network setup wizard appears, follow the instructions on the window to connect the ScanSnap to a wireless access point.

    USB cable connection

    Click the [Later] button.

    The Wi-Fi settings for the ScanSnap can be configured later.

  8. When the "Connection is complete" window appears, click the [Next] button.

  9. When the [ScanSnap Home - Connecting ScanSnap] window (Let's use it!) appears, check the contents and click the [Close] button.

The scanner name of the connected ScanSnap is displayed in [Select a scanner] in the Scan Window.

The scan window appears when you click the [Scan] button in the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

Checking the Scanner

The window varies depending on the ScanSnap to be connected.

For a mobile device
  1. Install the software from the App Store or Google Play.

  2. Start up the software that you installed.

    Follow the instructions to set up the software.

    ATTENTION
    • To connect the ScanSnap and a mobile device via Wi-Fi, you need to connect the mobile device to the same wireless access point as the one that you selected when configuring the Wi-Fi settings on the touch panel of the ScanSnap.

      To connect the ScanSnap and a mobile device via Wi-Fi, the mobile device must be already connected to the wireless access point that you want to connect the ScanSnap to.

    To display the Basic Operation Guide (Mobile Connection) on your mobile device, tap the [Information] button (iOS)/Menu (Android) the [Help] button in the [File List] screen of ScanSnap Connect Application.

The scanner name of the connected ScanSnap is displayed in [Select a scanner] in the Scan Window.

The scan window appears when you click the [Scan] button in the Main Window of ScanSnap Home.

Setting a Profile
Setting a Profile

ScanSnap Home allows you to register your favorite scan settings for the ScanSnap as a profile.

After you install ScanSnap Home on your computer, the default profiles are displayed on the touch panel of the ScanSnap. For details, refer to Default Profiles.

After you install ScanSnap Home on your computer, the default profiles are displayed in the scan window of ScanSnap Home. For details, refer to Default Profiles.

You can add a new profile or modify the settings for a profile depending on your intended use for the ScanSnap.

  1. Click the [Scan] button in the main window of ScanSnap Home to display the scan window.

    Windows

    If the main window is not already displayed, refer to To Display the Main Window.

    Mac OS

    If the main window is not already displayed, click the [ScanSnap Home] icon ScanSnap Home Icon in the application list that appears when you click Launchpad in the Dock.

     

  2. Add a new profile or modify the settings for a profile depending on your intended use.

    This section explains how to set a profile that saves images of documents that you scanned with the ScanSnap to a local folder or network folder.

    To save images to a cloud service, refer to Linking with a Cloud Service.

    For adding a new profile

    Click Add Profiles on the scan window.

    The window varies depending on the ScanSnap to be connected.

    When [Add new profile] Window is displayed, select a template profile from the template list on the left side of the window and modify the settings as needed.

    For modifying the settings for a profile

    Click Edit Profiles on the scan window.

    Editing Profiles

    The window varies depending on the ScanSnap to be connected.

    When the [Edit profiles] Window is displayed, select a profile from the profile list to modify the settings as needed.

  3. When you finish adding a new profile or finish modifying the settings for a profile, click the [Add] or [Save] button.

Once a new profile is added, it is added to the profile list in the scan window. Or, when the settings for a profile are modified, the modified settings are saved. Scanning documents by selecting a profile that you added or a profile that you modified the settings for allows you to save scanned images with your settings applied in the specified destination.

These saved images, together with meta information, form content data records that can be managed, searched for, edited, and used in ScanSnap Home.
