Precautions

Q1 Why does the indicator occasionally remain displayed and operation freezes when importing data files from Word, Excel or PowerPoint?
A1 While VBS files are normally associated with "Windows Based Script Host", this kind of malfunction (loop down) may occur when VBS files have been configured for another program. Reconfigure these VBS files with "Windows Based Script Host" and try doing the same thing again.
Q2 What precautions should I take when importing data from the print function or other applications?
A2 It is important that you realize that a divider sheet will be added to the particular Rack2-Filer binder that you are importing data into if the imported document name (job name) exceeds 50 characters (one-byte) and the "Automatically insert divider sheet when inserting files" in [Viewer Settings] has been enabled.

(Note)
Please note that document names (job names) for Word and Excel imported files are written in the following format: "Microsoft Word + (file name)". Thus, it is recommended that file names be limited to 30 one-byte characters or fewer.
Q3 What precautions should I take when setting Acrobat®-related product print settings when importing files into Rack2-Filer?
A3 It is important that you realize that imported images may not appear the way that you expected (images cannot be shown in their entirety), when importing files via Acrobat® product print functions with the print window's "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size" setting disabled.
This issue can be corrected by enabling "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size " in the Acrobat® product (6.0 or later) and importing the image(s) once again.

(Note)
Please note that Acrobat® 5.0 does not support this setting.
Q4 What precautions should I take when enabling Rack2-Filer's "Place over-sized data on facing pages" setting?
A4 It is important that you realized that PDF files that have been created from scanned 11x17inch, A2, A3 and B4 images may not be displayed on 2 pages when "Place over-sized data on facing page" (located in [Viewer Settings]) has been activated.
This issue can be addressed by enabling "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size" in Acrobat®'s print window (6.0 or later) and importing the image(s) once again.

(Note)
Please note that Acrobat® 5.0 does not support this setting.
Q5 What precautions should I take when using Rack2-Filer with the "Automatically correct for skewed scanner input" and "Automatically correct for upside-down scanner input" settings have been activated?
A5 These Rack2-Filer functions are primarily intended to automatically deskew TWAIN scanner created data and ensuring that the created images are shown in their proper orientation.
In the case of importing ScanSnap created image data, please note that similar ScanSnap functions may produce more accurate results than Rack2-Filer, due to differences in the accuracy of the Rack2-Filer and the ScanSnap correction engines.
Q6 What precautions should I take when using "Automatically remove blank pages from scanner input"?
A6 Rack2-Filer supports a feature that automatically removes blank images from image data that has been created by fi-Scanners running on TWAIN.
However, it is important that you realize that that there are cases, depending upon the scanning accuracy of the scanner in question, when blank images are not removed. (This tends to occur most when scanning in color) This issue can be corrected by scanning a document with the TWAIN driver window displayed and configuring settings to increase brightness values.
Q7 What precautions should I take when using Rack2-Filer with a scanner that is running on a WIA driver?
A7 Rack2-Filer does not support WIA drivers.
Q8 What precautions should I take when linking Rack2-Filer with ScanSnap Organizer?
A8 Please note that that an error message stating "Server is busy" may appear in the ScanSnap bundled ScanSnap Organizer, when a user tries to display ScanSnap created PDFs (under the condtions stated in Note1) and link this file to Rack2-Viewer. Either try performing the same operation again when this happens or drag and drop the image onto the page when running Rack2-Filer.

(Note1)
This may occur when using ScanSnap generated PDF files that have passwords, time stamps or digital signatures attached to them.
Q9 What precautions should I take when extracting text from generated images when linking Rack2-Filer with ScanSnap?
A9 Please note that text is extracted from A3 document based images, where the document has been placed in a carrier sheet and the ScanSnap's "Place over-sized data on facing pages" (located in [Viewer Settings] - [Page Insertion] tab) and "Convert to Searchable PDF" or "Searchable PDF(OCRs during scan)"(ScanSnap Manager settings) settings have been enabled. It is based upon Rack2-Viewer OCR results and not ScanSnap OCR results. As a result, there is the possibility that cases where the A3 data is divided into 2 sections and text appears vertically may result in incorrect text extraction. (Note: This text extraction issue is not limited to ScanSnap created data and the same issue may occur when importing data into Rack2-Filer with the "File" button or the "Scanner" button.)
This issue can be corrected by disabling "Place over-sized data on facing pages".
Q10 What precautions should I take when using high resolution data?
A10 Importing high resolution data (ie. 600dpi data created by using ScanSnap's "Best" mode, binary 1,200dpi data etc.) into Rack2-Filer requires a large amount of storage memory (See Note1). This may cause display errors and other Rack2-Filer malfunctions to occur in cases when the amount of available memory or virtual memory is limited.
There are times when this issue can be corrected by increasing the amount of installed memory or virtual memory in accordance with the amount of data that is being handled. However, this approach may not correct this issue in cases when data conversions are not successful when performing data modifications (See Note 2). Therefore, we recommend that you avoid modifying such high data resolution if possible.

(Note1)
An especially large amount of storage memory is required in cases invoving data that has been generated by scanning 11 x 17 inch, A2, A3 or B4 documents and the "Place over-sized data on facing pages"setting (located in [Viewer Settings]), has been activated.
(Note2)
This function modifies imported data (PDF files) when "Create PDF source files for data from scanner & supported file formats" has been enabled.
Q11 What precautions should I take when linking Rack2-Filer with ScanSnap?
A11 Please take note of the following:
a) This reduction in displayed image quality occurs with deskew information containing data. Thus, it is recommended that users avoid importing data that has been created by ScanSnap scanners that have been set to "Excellent " mode.
b) Performance may be reduced when importing PDF files that have been created by ScanSnap scanners that have been set to "Excellent" mode (binary) into Rack2-Viewer. This issue occurs when processing data that was scanned at a resolution of 1,200dpi. Thus, it is recommended that users avoid importing data that has been created by ScanSnap scanners tha have been set to "Excellent" mode.
<Reference> The following times have been created in the following environment: Pentium4 2.8 GHz 2GB memory.
1) Importing a file: 37 seconds
2) Switching from 2-page mode to 1-page mode: 23 seconds
3) Using the contents page to display a target page (2 pages, open binder): 31 seconds

c) Performance might be reduced when importing PDFs (landscape, binary) into Rack2-Viewer that have been created by ScanSnap scanners set to "Best mode" and the "Allow automatic image rotation", which is located in "Read mode option" has been enabled. Disable the "Allow automatic image rotation" setting and scan the document in question once again with a ScanSnap scanner.

<Reference> The following times have been created in the following environment: Pentium4 2.8 GHz 2 GB memory ("Best" mode)
1) Importing a file: 2.3 seconds
2) Flipping a page immediately after opening a binder: 4.0 seconds
Q12 What precautions should I take when importing PDF files?
A12 Rack2-Filer may not respond when importing PDF files containing foreign language text when using version 5.0 of an Acrobat® family product. You should be able to correct this issue by installing version 6.0 or higher of the same Acrobat® family product.
Q13 Can I cause any problems by turning off my computer while Rack2 Folder Monitor Software is running?
A13 Turning off, rebooting or logging off while the Rack2 Folder Monitor Software is still running may corrupt the destination binder. Be sure to turn off, reboot or log off by right clicking the Rack2 Folder Monitor Software icon or wait until the icon is no longer flashing.
Q14 What precautions should I take when using Windows® "System Restore"?
A14 There is a chance that Rack2-Filer users will not be able to view Rack2-Filer libraries, cabinets and / or binders if a hard disk consistency problem occurs while Windows® "System Restore" is activated.
