Importing documents and electronic data

Q1 Which file formats does Rack2-Filer support when importing electronic data?
A1 The following file formats are supported:
Image files (Note 1)
  • BMP (Windows and OS/2 bitmap)
  • PCX (Zsoft format (Single page))
  • JPG, JPEG (JPEG format)
  • TIF, TIFF (TIFF format (Including multi-pages. Excluding ZIP compression format)) (Note 2)
  • WMF (Windows meta file)
  • PSD (PhotoShop 3.0 format)
  • PNG (Portable Network Graphics format. Excluding 32bit.)
  • TGA (Truevision TARGA format)
  • PCD (Photo CD format)
  • FPX (FlashPix format)
  • PDF (PDF format) (Note 3)

Other than image files:
  • Files created by applications with a print function. In this case, the corresponding applications must be installed in your PC beforehand.

(Note 1) Direct import of the following file formats is not possible.
Open the file in an application, select [Rack-2 ImageWriter] in the printer selection to print the file, and then import it.
  • J2K, HTM, HTML, GIF, EMF, lnk, url, rk2

(Note 2) lzw compression format is not supported in V4.0 and earlier.

(Note 3) PDF output with Rack2-Filer or scanned with ScanSnap.
Other types of PDF are imported with the print function in their related applications.
Q2 Why are the PDF files that are imported by Rack2-Filer larger than standard PDF files?
A2 Rack2-Filer imports data by converting images into image formatted PDFs, therefore the imported data may become larger than the original PDF files.
Q3 How can I import multiple files at once?
A3 Select the [File] button from the left-hand side of the Rack2-Viewer window, then you can select the files that you would like to import from the "Insert From File" dialog box. Files can be filed in a binder in the same order as they are displayed in the file list. Furthermore, you can also drag & drop your selected files (multiple files) onto a page to import it immediately.
Q4 Are files saved in a PDF format in Rack2-Filer binders?
A4 They are saved in PDF and INI formats.
Q5 How much data capacity is required to store images in Rack2-Filer?
A5 Althougth the size of images varies, the following monochrome (letter sized Excel) and color (letter size) images are representative of documents that were scanned at 200dpi and 300dpi:
Data scanned at 200dpi: monochrome images are approximately 50KB per page, while color images are approximately 580KB (24bit color) per page.
Data scanned at 300dpi: Monochrome images are approximately 110KB per page, while color images are approximately 1,180KB (24bit color) per page.
Q6 What should I do when a scanner generated image is displayed upside down in my Rack2-Filer?
A6 Right-click on the image and select [Manipulations] - [Turn Page Upside-Down] to rotate the image to its correct orientation.
Q7 When I printed the electronic data that I imported into my Rack2-Filer, its format differed from the original page settings. What can I do to solve this?
A7 Change the printer name to "Raku2 ImageWriter", then configure the page settings once again.
e.g. For MS-Office:
  1. Open the target file.
  2. Select [Print] from the [File] menu to display the print window.
  3. Change the printer name to "Raku2 ImageWriter" in the print window and click [Close]
  4. Select [Print Preview] from the [File] menu to adjust page margins and other settings. Then click [Close].
  5. Update and save the file, then close the file.
  6. Import the file from Rack2-Viewer window again.
Q8 Can I directly import Word and Excel electronic data into Rack2-Filer without activating Rack2-Filer?
A8 Yes you can. Electric data can be directly imported into Rack2-Filer with Word's or Excel's print function.
Specifying "Raku2 ImageWriter" in Word's or Excel's print command enables you to specify which library, cabinet and binder you would like to import electronic data into.
Q9 Can I import Word (doc) , Excel (xls) or PowerPoint (ppt) files into Rack2-Filer with the free viewers ( Word Viewer, Excel Viewer and PowerPoint Viewer ) that are made available by Microsoft?
A9 No you cannot. You need to have an official version of Microsoft Office installed in your computer to import these files into Rack2-Filer.
Q10 What is the Rack-2 Filer support status for Microsoft® Office 2010?
A10 The support status is as follows.
  • Microsoft® Office 2010 32bit
    - No operational problems
  • Microsoft® Office 2010 64bit
    - The following problems have been identified.
    Check the prevention methods before use.
Rack2-Filer V5.0L41 or earlier (V5.0L10, V5.0L11, V5.0L30, V5.0L31, V5.0L40)
Problem An error message appears when using the send mail function, and linking with E-mail software may not be possible.
Prevention Apply the latest service pack.
Rack2-Filer V4.0 (Including Lite) or earlier
Problem An error message appears when using the send mail function, and linking with E-mail software may not be possible.
Prevention Save the file, and then attach it to a mail separately.
Future support We are sorry but there are no plans to support this operation.
