PFU succeeds in world's first uncompressed 8K live video transmission by JGN-X, the testbed of NICT

PFU Limited (the president: Kiyoshi Hasegawa, the Tokyo head office: Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki-shi) has successfully transmitted 8K uncompressed, ultra-high-definition video over the IP network by PFU's QoolTornado QG70 during the Verification Test Event by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), on Feb. 5th 2014.

NICT has been working on establishing and running the JGN-X's high speed network in order to realize and deploy the next generation network technology. The Verification Test for research on Network Technology is hosted by NICT every year during the Sapporo Snow Festival. This purpose of a verification test has been to connect an ultra high speed network between Tokyo and Osaka during the Sapporo Snow Festival.

PFU has been promoting a professional video transmission solutions initiative since last year and has succeeded in transmitting 4K uncompressed, ultra-high-definition video over this special IP network which is configured in Sapporo. This year, in order to verify the higher potential of high-definition-video transmission over the IP network, PFU in collaboration with partners had tested 8K uncompressed, ultra-high-definition video transmission over the 100 Gbps high speed IP network between Tokyo and Osaka. The test was done on 5th of February and successfully transmitted the image of the Sapporo Snow Festival scene with lossless of ultra-high-definition 8K 60P dual green system.

The 8K 60P uncompressed video transmission device, PFU's QoolTornado QG70, was used for the verification test. The QoolTornado QG70 has a unique feature that allows the synchronization of multi channel signals and multi devices for transmitting 4K/8K images.

PFU continues to provide 4K broadcast supported products and services, to the Professional Video solutions marketplace and will continue its verification tests for variety of environments in the near future. The Verification Test has been done in collaboration with the Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT), the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the National University Corporation of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), NTT-IT Corporation (NTT-IT), Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) (*1), ASTRODESIGN Inc. (ASTRO).

About QoolTornado QG70

The product QoolTornado QG70 is designed for the Professional Video solutions marketplace. It enables video transmissions using uncompressed HD to uncompressed 4K/8K over a high speed IP Network "10Gbps". The QoolTornado QG70 supports an IP Network but also a base-band video system by connecting SDI cable(s).

The QG70 is a small, lightweight box that can be hand carried and has a simple user interface on its front panel LCD interface. The QoolTornado QG70 can be deployed and used outside from field locations, remote studios, post production offices associated with broadcast stations, an event venue or within the healthcare marketplace.

This live 8K video transmission has demonstrated that PFU's QoolTornado QG70 can successfully work with 4K and 8K supporting products such as Camera, Monitor and Router due to the success of this most recent verification test.

It has been well received from many of participants of the joint verification test. The QoolTornado QG70, even though it is quite compact, offers high quality, low latency, bi-directional transmission with preview functions that are available during all transmissions.
